Oregon is embarking on an ambitious endeavor: the creation of a seamless statewide parcel feature service. This initiative, known as the Statewide Parcels Pilot Project, commenced in the fall of 2023 following the release of the Oregon Geographic Information Council’s (OGIC) Strategic Plan for Geospatial Data Management. OGIC’s commitment to data sharing and governance within the state set the stage for collaboration between the Department of Administrative Services Geospatial Enterprise Operations (DAS GEO) Oregon Framework Program and the pilot counties.
The project aims to tackle some of the most challenging data elements in the Framework Inventory, focusing specifically on parcels. However, the ultimate goal extends beyond parcels alone. By establishing a proof of concept for a statewide parcels, the project seeks to create a model that can be replicated for other datasets originating from local jurisdictions. These datasets should be publicly accessible, regularly updated, and continuously improving in quality and completeness over time.
To address the multifaceted challenges, the Statewide Parcels Pilot Project team has turned to 1Spatial and their automation tools. These tools streamline data submissions, automate validation, and facilitate aggregation processes. While the immediate focus remains on parcels, the broader vision is to foster a data ecosystem that benefits all Oregonians by providing reliable, up-to-date geospatial information.
