The roadmap for bringing Washington County’s traffic signs into the digital GIS world has been a long and challenging journey. The driving factor that greenlit this process was the County’s implementation of a GIS based asset management system. To speed up the data creation process, the County collaborated with a mobile LiDAR contractor for the collection of high accuracy traffic sign and pole locations. The day-to-day operational maintenance of these assets depends on the coordination of supervisors, field staff and GIS workflows for a productive GIS based asset management system.
