House Bill 2001 allowed for middle housing (duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, cottage clusters, and townhouses) in residential areas in the Portland region and other large cities within Oregon. Senate Bill 458 allows lot divisions for middle housing that enable them to be sold or owned individually. In this talk, we will look at the types of housing we have seen getting built over the past few years in the Portland region, both on the ground and in the data. We will also discuss how these two new laws might be affecting the types of housing getting built, and how Metro’s housing data is adapting to accommodate current housing types and required reporting for the upcoming Urban Growth Report.
